2-4-18I'm reviewing the Carhartt Arctic Quilted Black Bibs. I wanted to shop around a bit 1st and also try them on in a box store, but time was of the essence. We had a long blast of extraordinarily frigid temps, and I had a lot of outdoor work to do at the time as well. I also own a pair of Dickies Arctic bibs, but the Carhartt's are supposed to be a thicker insulation, so this is why I gave them a try. The only downside is the Carhartt's aren't insulated all the way up to the chest and back area like my Dickies are. The ultrathick insulation stops at the waist. So the definite advantage is that the legs are more insulated, so working out in the negative degree temps was no issue, and neither were the high winds. I just had to pair it up with my heavy coat which made working a little difficult. I was now too stiff, but hey.. if I fell over, I'd sure be padded and unhurt! I do like the material used, it is good quality and well made in the USA! A perk for the men, it does have a zip fly, so the guys can easily relieve themselves. This is an advantage I almost forgot because it doesn't apply to me. Lucky men...Some of the downfalls: The Dickies have many more zip pockets to assure nothing falls out and no debris gets in. The Carhartt's only have button closures on the few pockets that do have closures, which is only the top 2 on the chest. I'd love to have another pocket with a zipper on the inside part of the chest, one big one. I may just add it myself for my phone & cash. Another dislike I have is the zippers on the leg only go up to the knee. I've grown accustomed to the Dickies pair where they go up to the waist. It just makes it easier for me to take off & put on the bib while wearing my boots or the even bigger insulated boots, like muck boots. Not a deal breaker though, but felt I should mention it. The only other downfall is the lack of snap buttons on the ankles, which again my Dickies have and I have grown used to. It helps keep the leg hem tight around the boots, which keeps the snow or cold air out. It also helps keep the hems from dragging on the ground and receiving premature wear. This is where my modification comes in... my leg hems were already getting drug on the ground and wearing out the edges. Another reviewer here posted their gripe about the bibs being subpar quality, but that's not the case. You drag any cloth on the ground long enough, it will fray and tear up. What I did to remedy this was to install my own snaps. I looked to Amazon for this again.. I have my modifications shown in the photos. Since then, I've had no more issues with that and the snaps have not failed. As far as sizing... men, go by the sizing of the pants. I'm a woman, however, so our sizing is different. I'm 5'4" and fluctuate between 110 to 120 lbs and evenly proportioned head to toe. So I'm not top heavy or pear shaped, etc. I ordered 32W x 30L only because they didn't have the 28L at the time. Since I've installed the snaps anyway, length is of no issue. Plus I have no way of telling if the 28Ls would have been too short or not, I just needed them right away. I haven't come across any local stores that carry them either. I'm happy with my purchase either way.I bought this from the seller "Amazon", which I feel is important to list this info. I've come across sellers with variances in their items, including knockoffs, even if listed as same brand. I'll post an update with a durability review.
