I grew up on a farm (and am now 38), and still consider myself a farm kid. But back then, I grew up on a small farm and we didn't have enough money to buy good stuff like Carhartt jackets for us kids who grew out of them every year! I've kind of always wanted one, and finally got sick of Columbia jackets with fleece lining that fills me with static or other jackets that just don't last. So I researched and bought this one. Many of the reviews claim that it's warm enough to wear outside as your sole jacket during winter. This winter (2013) in Fargo has been nasty cold so far, with multiple days with 0 degrees F or lower as a daily high! Most of these cold days, I am wearing a sweater under this, and it does the trick for me going from vehicle to building and back, while keeping me comfortable while driving. I've also worn it for longer periods of time outside when it's cold and windy, with a sweatshirt under it, and it has performed very well. It cuts the wind better than I expected, so as long as you have a warmer layer under it, it really is warm enough.I am 6'3" tall, and about 190 pounds. I also have trouble finding jackets with long enough sleeves. I bought the Medium, Long, and it fits me perfectly!! This is the part I'm happiest about. Even with a sweatshirt under it, it's still big enough. It has lots of pockets. Another important thing for me is enough pockets to carry my wallet, cell phone, and sunglasses. It has 2 large inner chest pockets (one with a velcro top, another with a zipper), and I keep my wallet in the velcro one. It also has 2 outer chest pockets, and I keep my smart phone in one of those, easily accessible, easy to hear if it rings.I am very happy with this jacket, and am looking forward to having it last me multiple Fargo winters!Edited 12/30/13:Just spent an hour and a half tailgating for a football game, at -5 degrees F. I wore a long sleeved dry-fit shirt, a sweatshirt, a jersey, and this jacket, and felt perfectly dressed. I was concerned about spending this much time outside at that temperature with this jacket, but again, with the right layers, it cut the wind nicely, and did the job as expected!Bought for my dad, a carhartt wearer from way back. He retired to the south from new York and got all cocky and decide he would no longer need a coat like a wonderfully warm carhart and gave them away. Fast forward a few years and we ate on our daily call and he says "its been cold enough down here I have been wishing I had kept at least one of those carhartts". It was a good "I told you so moment for me".It's hard buying a coat for someone else so I chatted with the people at carhartt. His size according to the chart was between L and XL. So I wanted their opinion. His chest - 44" , belly - 43", waist - 42" and arm length 29". She suggested a large. As you can see it fit just right and he is happy with it. But after talking to him he has told me that if he were up north he would have gotten the XL, so he could wear sweatshirts of flannels under it. But down south thats not necessary. So for dad and those measurements the large leaves no room for layering. But he says he doesn't need to layer and it's a perfect fit for working out in his shop, driving, or walking the dog.I know this is not for the hood but I did have to order that from carhartt. Amazon did not have it in black and also the one that's suppose to go with this coat was different then the carhartt website. I'm giving 5 stars all the way because it's carhartt, well made and my dad is happy and he's worn carhartts forever...but I do wish that the hoods and jackets had numbers so you can match them up together easier. Besides that I would and will buy carhartt products over and over again. My husband was talking about how much he loved this jacket and how long he has had it so I looked back through my orders and saw that it was ordered October 2015. Other than the color fading slightly it is just as good as it was when we ordered it. Would definitely recommend4 stars, missing 1 star for these 2 cons that I believe are in the design; first the integrated cuffs are annoying and restrictive, it should've used a button to cinch the sleeve if that's what was needed, it should be an option, not forced. The rubbing from the cuff from extending your arm is also annoying, needless to say I'll be cutting them out, but there will be no back up way to cinch the sleeve, but I can live with it. Second con is in starting this zipper, I'm assuming it's from the dual system, but it can be troublesome at times and stubborn, but this may lessen as it wears in a bit. Everything else is top notch from quality to warmth. Sandstone is still a little stiff but a lot softer than the original duck materiel. Also as for size I ordered this and the large to see which fit better. I'm 5' 11'' at 155 pounds, chest measured with tape is 41" so I was on the border and they say to buy the next size up but the medium fit perfect with a thin hoody and t-shirt underneath and still a little play. The large would be doable but it was way too roomy, the sleeves were slightly shorter than the large, but more like a normal coat, like the guy in the picture. I sent the large back. If you have the money and it's free returns I suggest doing this method to get your best fit, especially if you're between sizes, it was a big difference from medium to large.Great jacket, only issue is the zip jams sometimes when zipping up halfway through. That really about the only thing bad about it.Also 2xl jackets usually don't provide a comfortable fit for me, but carharrt are generous with sizing so fits me great ???. Very well made and will hopefully last a long time.Very good for the cold weather, and big pockets on the outside, perfect for bigger or more items (inside pockets great too, one large zip one and one Velcro one)Overall great jacket.Just arrived today, Initially I was a bit worried about size so I chose Large in moss green as it was free returns with prime. It fits great I'm 42-44 chest 6ft tall. Wasn't my first colour choice, thinking of getting brown. Now I've seen the colour I'm keeping it. I think it looks great and its warm and comfortableA Decent winter option - Carhartt never disappoint in terms of build quality and you get the feeling this jacket will last for years. Ended up sizing up to the large version as I found the shoulder width a little restrictive for me in the Medium size. Only downside to that is the Large is HUGE and will easily fit a thick jumper underneath too...ideal if it gets really cold though.Great warm coatDelivered covered in mould
