The book is lovely and I am looking forward to making this beautiful quilt.The Bountiful Life is about the a quilt in the Folk Art Museum in New York City. It's a slice of history that was stored and locked away with the owners forgetting what happened to the owner of the quilt. This leaves it open to the imagination. The draw on this story and quilt is that it is from the Civl War and thus known in quilter's circles as the Civil War Bride's Quilt. These quilts were often made by the bride and their family as a present blessing the new bride with fertility and happiness. Although the quilt depicts the bride, the square where the groom should be is empty leaving one to ask "what happened." Did her intended die in the war? Was she left at the altar? The book also contains full-sized patterns and instructions for making the quilt.I always loved the Bird of Paradise quilt top in the American Folk Art Museum. Here is a book that lets the ambitious quilter create her own heirloom quilt.The patterns can be done by somebody with some applique experience and you end up with your own museum piece if you stick with it and work thru the book.Some friends ordered patterns for this quilt from Australia for $70. I am very happy to be able to buy the book for a fraction of that price and hopefully, create my own masterpiece.Blocks are nicely done. Great to have colored pictures. Really like that block pages can be copied and then taped together. This book is for someone who knows how to do the applique with whatever technique you prefer. It's a fun project to do with a group, with each member making her/his own version.I have long wanted patterns to this famous quilt. The book is well put together, and beautiful. I am hoping to make some version of the quilt in the near future.Le livre est arrivé en parfait état bien avant la date indiquée. Le livre correspond parfaitement à mes attentes. Il peut paraître cher mais il est plus avantageux que les patrons proposé par un magasin australien. Pour chaque bloc, il y a une photo, un commentaire plus ou moins historique de l'auteur et bien sûr le patron. Bien sûr tout est en anglais mais pour la réalisation, cela ne génera pas la quilteuse. Je recommande cet achat à toute celles qui comme moi rêve de réaliser "the bird of paradise quilt". Dommage que la couverture qu'une partie d'un bloc car cela ne met pas en valeur la totalité de l'ouvrage.
